I tried to send a test mail to my gmail.
Connection could not be established with host mail.eclipso.de :stream_socket_client(): SSL operation failed with code 1. OpenSSL Error messages: error:1408F10B:SSL routines:ssl3_get_record:wrong version number
The server (apache) is local, is this causing issues? How do I fix this?

A few questions and things to check…
From where did you try to send this email? From the nextcloud settings page, from the Netxcloud Mail App or from the command line of your server? Is this error message coming from the nextcloud log or from some other mail log on your server?
Did you use the correct SMTP settings for your mail account?
Especially this one is important:
(Port): 587 - Verschlüsselung: TLS / STARTTLS
- From the settings page
- I used SMTP, port 587. Login data are directly copied from the firefox logins page. Encryption is set to “SSL/TLS”.
Try change it to STARTTLS in the dropdown menu.
