Photo Workflow: Keep current photos, automatically delete old ones – how to solve this?

Hi everyone,

I’ve installed Nextcloud and updated my photos. On my phone, I’ve organized my photos as follows:

\Camera → all current photos
\year\20xx → photos from 20xx
\year\2024 → photos from 2024
\year\2025 → photos from 2025

In the Nextcloud app, I’ve set up automatic uploads for all older years/folders and configured it to delete the files from my phone after the upload.

I want to keep the current and previous years locally on my phone, but also back them up to the server. What’s the best way to do this?

I can also set up automatic uploads here, but keep the pictures on my phone. So far, so good, but what happens in 2027?

  1. If I select the option in the 2025 folder to delete the original pictures on my phone, the app will clean up the phone?

  2. If I copy the images from 2026 from the Camera folder to a new folder \2026 and sync this folder, what happens to the images on the server? Theoretically, on my phone, I would then only have images from 2027 in \Camera and the images from 2026 in \2026. The phone would then upload the new \2026 folder to the server, but the images would already be in \camera on the server. Will Nextcloud delete them automatically, or do I have to delete them manually from \camera?

Is this the correct procedure, or have I gone astray somewhere?

P.S. Should I activate folder sync for the current folder or how the sync is done?
