I took a photo today that I really wanted to look at on my PC. But it wasn’t uploaded. When I went to uploads in the Nextcloud app, I got a message saying that due to changes by Google, deleting uploads no longer works. I didn’t think anything of it and then tried to upload the image via share. But nothing works. The last image that was uploaded was from December 12th. I seem to remember that I got a new Android update in the last few days. Could this be causing a problem?
What can I do for testing or where can I find logs or messages?
Known Issue:
As far as I understand, the linked Bug report about “all files access” states that for them, uploading Photos would still be available and they even mentoned a workaround by putting a photo-like file-extension (.png) to make it work.
THIS issue here is about the actual PHOTO upload not working anymore and I can confirm, my last successful Photo-Upload was on Dec. 12th. By the way, this also affects the iOS version of my wife, which is also unable to upload photos. So “Google changed…” is not quite cutting it.
For me as workaround the version from F-Droid still works, question is how long this works
The iOS and Android app are completely two different projects. If the auto-upload no longer works for both iOS and Android, I wonder if there are server-side errors in the logs?
I confirm that the auto-upload of photos on android is erratical at best. Android 15 with nextcloud 30.0.4
After downloading and installing f-droid version of client I had managed to have 1 photo auto-uploaded, but today it stopped working even the f-droid version.
The client signals no errors, it simply does not start any upload
Same here. Stopped auto uploading pictures on 15th December.
Re-applying permissions didn’t solve the issue
Hello,
I am a Nextcloud Snap user. Yes, off late, I am too noticing the auto upload feature from Photos and Videos have become erratic with Android Nextcloud app with my Android 14 & 15 devices.
Just to elaborate,
Suppose the user is taking pictures and videos. Few gets uploaded automatically while few are left behind.
Nextcloud android app upload history doesn’t show any pending or failed uploads but if you check manually, sure enough, some files are missing at the server end. Manually upload them doesn’t show any permission issue, that works fine.
iOS auto upload never worked for me properly since ages. If the app is closed, nextcloud iOS app can’t do the auto upload in the background. That is the known issue for me. For iOS, I always have to do manual upload while keeping the screen on with the nextcloud iOS app opened !!
But this android app issue is new, infact really new as otherwise, for past couple of years, it has been a really reliable experience with the nextcloud android app.
Thanks.
My auto uploads have been working fine for ages. I have a oneplus 12 with the latest update on it.
Yesterday i decided to rebuild my nextcloud instance which runs on bare metal Ubuntu.
Believe latest server version is 30.0.4 which seems to have some bug when it is doing its checks on the overview page. Red error about not being able to check the server.
Anywho i have reinstalled the app on my phone and now the auto upload is so flakey.
I does not want to upload videos from custom folder anymore only randomly does a picture.
I can manually upload files fine. Tested a huge 10 GB file last night and that downloaded fine.
I am thinking this issue is server related.
I still have a backup of my old instance which was a few versions old and was working fine so might revert back to that to just test.
I purely use nextcloud just as a replacement for google photos and drive so far it has been good but this new update may have buggered it up.
I believe it only used to sync new pictures as well. So to test it i would take a few random pics off my phone then i would see the nextcloud icon pop up saying it is uploading within seconds of taking them. Now…nothing.
I have two clients on the same server both are running 3.30.6. The auto upload for photos/videos is working fine on the Android 15 device, the Android 14 device it is not working.
ok, at least maybe I’m not crazy.
I’m getting a “file could not be copied to local storage” error on all my uploads. I cannot find any further information and I don’t know if that’s a server generated error or what. Is anyone else getting this symptom with your failed uploads too?
I have two clients (Android 14) on the same server (latest Nextcloud AIO).
Nextcloud Android app version 3.30.6.
The auto upload for photos/videos is not working.
Latest autoupload - 2024-12-14.
For me the same issue. Always worked. I installed the fdroid version of nextcloud on my mobile.
And did an upgrade to the latest version of the server. Now autoupload is not working anymore as it should.
1 photo is uploaded in the last few days. I can however upload photos manualy.
So there seems to be a bug in the newest versions of nextcloud whcih breaks the auto upload system.
Not much to add but I also found the same issue today after family started to complain their holiday pictures not uploading. Google brought me here looking for answers.
I too also noticed that Dec 15th was the last date auto-upload was working which coincides with the date I upgraded the server to 30.0.4.
Google did find this though which might be related somehow. https://help.nextcloud.com/t/hub-9-30-0-4-htaccess-files-cannot-be-synchronized/213579/3
Hopefully we get a solution soon.
Mine just randomly started working.
But get this now if i delete a photo from my camera roll.
For my auto upload folder I have it set to ignore hidden files and folders because i noticed it was uploading my deleted files which .trashed files.
Worked fine before i rebuilt and reinstalled my server and app.
It’s like what ever settings you apply in the auto upload area within the app does nothing.
Just to report I’m facing the same issue as described by many.
I have a Nextcloud Server (30.0.4) running on docker on a Fedora Server system. I have around 10 clients, with different phone brands and Android versions and one iOS, and all are facing the same problem.
At first, around Dec 15th, auto-upload stopped completely, I tried to clear app data, re-login, and reconfigure, but it sent some pictures/videos and left others unsent.
Now, it is just randomly sending some pictures/videos and not sending others, I cannot find a pattern, nor force it to rescan and re-send them.
Is there any news or workaround for this?!
i’m facing the same issue. Last uploads: 15.12.2024
