Hello nextcloud community! I’m facing an error where whenever I attempt to use the auto-updater, I receive an error: image

I’ve had this issue since a few versions back but can’t give an exact version number, perhaps 2 years back. And I’ve never been able to solve it, and have always resorted to a manual update which I find very tedious, id really like to get the auto-updater to work! and I’m willing to try anything.

To replicate: Have the same version of apache, and PHP as me, and use the older 20.0.1 release, untar, serve and test.

Try to run occ without parameters, or occ -V and check version in a first line. Was it upgraded?

Anything else i could try? It looks like running occ with -V shows i am not actually upgraded as the upgrade command says i am.

But… no… thats literally my issue

I can update manually but that just pushes my problem further down the road, for the past 4 times ive updated manually i want to use the automatic updater doing it by hand is what im trying to fix…

The problem is that you do not know what causing an error.

How about this: Open a Developer Console in Network section (Control+Shift+E for Firefox, or Control+Shift+J for Chrome) and than click on “Start Update”. You will see an error and it will be possible to see the last message what was send to UI and maybe find out what is in the response, but could not be parsed.

I’m trying to give this a go but… it’s just sorta, staying stuck on initializing, I would really like to try and see what the console output is is but im not getting anything.

I’m getting the same result now in firefox and chromium, even after restarting the nextcloud host, thats so odd…

Just open it only before to hit “Start update” or “Retry update”. We are intresting about last message, when you click on it, you can see more details on the right side. Main Part is not Headers, but “Answer”.

I still cant push any buttons… so odd? Idk why, but i have not tried adjusting anything, waiting for further input on that. Heres what i see in the mean time.

All good, try to disable cache:

Than, if it works when error comes, click on last message with green status 200.

Tried disabling cache and using a different web browser, vm, looks like its not working at all anymore, just stuck on initializing, everything else works on my install, idk why the updater always seems so terribly broken.
