ONLYOFFICE document editor fails immediately when opening files in Nextcloud (“The document could not be saved” error)

Hello,

We have set up Nextcloud with ONLYOFFICE Document Server and completed the integration successfully. The connection test between Nextcloud and ONLYOFFICE is successful and everything appears to be configured correctly.

However, when I try to open a document from the Nextcloud Files section the ONLYOFFICE editor starts but immediately shows the following error message: “The document could not be saved. Please check your connection settings or contact your administrator.” After clicking “OK” nothing changes and the document does not open properly. The editor remains on the same error screen and I am unable to work on the file.

I would really appreciate any guidance or suggestions to help resolve this issue. Thank you in advance for your support. :folded_hands: :cherry_blossom:

Hi,
have you ever tried to open Nextcloud WebUI in a private (inkognito) Windows of your browser?
And in between this opened a document → triggered the ONLYOFFICE documentserver?

Same error or other behaviour?

Maybe it’s a good idea to clear browser cache after logout from Nextcloud and before re-login in a private browser windows…

Hello,

Thank you for your suggestion.

I have already tried opening Nextcloud in an incognito/private browser window, and I also cleared the browser cache completely before logging in again. Unfortunately, the issue still persists in both cases.

When I open a document, ONLYOFFICE Document Server is triggered, but the same error appears immediately (“The document could not be saved…”), and the editor does not load properly.

So the behavior is identical regardless of browser cache or private browsing mode

I have the same error.

On two separate Nextcloud instances.

Revalidate the connection settings with OnlyOffice Server using the secret key, I get this error: Error when trying to connect (cURL error 52: Empty reply from server (see libcurl - Error Codes ) for ``https://my.domain.net/cache/files/data/conv_check_457146929_65/output.docx/check_457146929.docx?md5=SWqA4OFs1twreoFeRgz4xQ&expires=1780998953&shardkey=3332000398&filename=check_457146929.docx``) (version 9.3.1.10)

Hello,

Thank you for sharing this. I am experiencing a very similar issue, but in my case the error occurs when opening a document rather than during the connection revalidation step.

However, the behavior seems related, since both point to a communication failure between Nextcloud and ONLYOFFICE Document Server.

Have you found a solution on your side?:cherry_blossom:

I also have this issue when opening document.

On one server, I can re-validate the connection from the Nextcloud admin panel, but on the other, I get the error mentioned above.

I just install a new OnlyOffice Docs CE server v9.4 on ubuntu 26.04 virtual system and it work (for now… ) with my Nextcloud server.
