Notifications on available App Updates lead to File List instead of App List

Support intro

Sorry to hear you’re facing problems. :slightly_frowning_face:

The community help forum (help.nextcloud.com) is for home and non-enterprise users. Support is provided by other community members on a best effort / “as available” basis. All of those responding are volunteering their time to help you.

If you’re using Nextcloud in a business/critical setting, paid and SLA-based support services can be accessed via portal.nextcloud.com where Nextcloud engineers can help ensure your business keeps running smoothly.

Getting help

In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.

Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:

(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):
    • 34.0.1
  • Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):
    • 6.8.0-134-generic #134-Ubuntu (it’s a shared hosting setup and that’s all I can get from the server through phpinfo())
  • Web server and version (e.g, Apache 2.4.25):
    • Apache(unknown version due to shared hosting; phpinfo() only shows “Apache“)
  • Reverse proxy and version (e.g. nginx 1.27.2)
    • no
  • PHP version (e.g, 8.3):
    • 8.3.29
  • Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Yes / No):
    • No
  • When did this problem seem to first start?
    • around NC 29
  • Installation method (e.g. AlO, NCP, Bare Metal/Archive, etc.)
    • manual FTP followed by Web-Installer
  • Are you using CloudfIare, mod_security, or similar? (Yes / No)
    • No

Summary of the issue you are facing:

When updates are available for apps (e.g. Contacts), a notification appears. When clicking on the notification, I am redirected to the file list instead of the list of available app updates.

Within the example, the notification points at “#app-contacts” while clicking it redirects to “apps/files/files#app-contacts”.

I’d expect to land at “settings/apps/updates#app-contacts“ or similar.

Similarly, when an NC update is available, clicking the notification won’t redirect me to the admin settings but to the file list as well.

Have I broken my configuration or something? I’d appreciate any useful hints.

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. Have an app update available.

  2. Click on the notification (on Android or within the browser-based version of NC)

  3. Observe the redirection to “apps/files/files#app-contacts”.

Log entries

Nextcloud

Please provide the log entries from your Nextcloud log that are generated during the time of problem (via the Copy raw option from Administration settings->Logging screen or from your nextcloud.log located in your data directory). Feel free to use a pastebin/gist service if necessary.

There are no log entries at the time I click on an app update notification. E.g., it is 19:55 now and the latest log entry is from 03:18:
DbalException
An exception occurred while executing a query: SQLSTATE[23000]: Integrity constraint violation: 1062 Duplicate entry '220963-341-256-17-0--1' for key 'previews_file_uniq_idx'

Web Browser

If the problem is related to the Web interface, open your browser inspector Console and Network tabs while refreshing (reloading) and reproducing the problem. Provide any relevant output/errors here that appear.

The output of occ config:list system or similar is best, but, if not possible, the contents of your config.php file from /path/to/nextcloud is fine (make sure to remove any identifiable information!):

When you’re logged in as an admin or on a normal user account?

I have one user account that is the administrator at the same time.

Can confirm this behavior on my instance 34.0.1. appeared with 34. when logged in as admin. Debian, apache. Moreover: if I’m updating with e.g. two outstanding apps I get prompted for password twice after selecting update all. If I recollect correctly this wasn’t the case before - the “security authentication” was “cached”.

Seems to be fixed in 34.0.2. Can anyone confirm?
