The issue you are facing:
Hello,
I use nclood.zaclys.com nextcloud with OnlyOffice installed on it. I mostly work on my notes on my desktop with Owncloud which is connected to this Nextcloud account.
For the second time, I lost the whole content of a note - which was a note with lots of content in it and that I hadn’t open for a few weeks. When I go on to open it, either in Owncloud (or any other text edit app) on my desktop, or in OnlyOffice online on nclood.zaclys.com my note shows up totally blank, with no version history.
I have no idea why this is happening…
Any idea how to recover it?

Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? : No

Steps to replicate it: No idea, as it is happening randomly after a few weeks not opening a note with lots of content…

The output of your Nextcloud log in Admin > Logging: No idea, this is managed by Nextcloud

No, it’s managed by your hosting provider. That appears to be a company called Zaclys. They’re the administrators of your Nextcloud instance. They will have access to the logs. They’re also responsible for configuring it, etc.

We can’t guess what is going on behind the scenes.

You’ll also probably want to discuss whether they’re doing backups of your data or not.

You also mentioned “Owncloud” a couple of times. Make sure you’re not using any Owncloud clients. Use the Nextcloud clients.

That’s right, I wasn’t precise enough, that’s managed by Zaclys.

My bad, I got mixed up. I do not use Owncloud… I meant QOwnNotes, the desktop client app to write notes, synchronised to Zaclys Nextcloud
Is there a Nexcloud Desktop client to edit notes?

No, just on the Web and Android.
On the desktop, you can use what you want to edit the Markdown files, for example QOwnNotes.

I have more information to share about the issue now.
I just retrieved an older version from 4 months ago of my lost note that got blank in Nextcloud, but it’s definitely not the last version I worked on before I lost it.

When I open Qownnotes on my Desktop, and I click on version history, first it tells me that it is downloading the history from the nextcloud server (in the footer of the Qownnotes screen), then it shows some versions older than 4 months ago (see screen shot below).

So I guess some versions might be available somewhere on my nextcloud server. But when I go on the online nextcloud platform of my server host (zaclys), I see no version history in the details of the note except for the current 0Kb version.
However when I click on Activity, I see 2 older versions, including one from 3 months ago (see screen shot)!

That doesn’t match the history versions I see on Qownnotes, which are from 4 months ago… And when I click on the 3 months old one on nextcloud online platform, it opens the blank current version. I am not sure if that would be an issue on the nextcloud side, the zaclys server side or the Qownnotes side…

I created an issue on the Qownnotes git hub if you interested to follow it: [BUG] note becomes blank 0kb and no history for no reason · Issue #2849 · pbek/QOwnNotes · GitHub
