Not logging in again after reboot

I was logged into my NextCloud website (which was installed on a VPS).
I changed some settings in the config.php file and rebooted the VPS, to be sure the new settings should have effect.
Immediately after the reboot, I refreshed the browser and it showed me the message it couldn’t connect to my VPS. But when my VPS came up again, I refreshed the browser again. I could see my files and so on without logging in again.
Why is my NextCloud not asking to log in again?

There is still a valid authentication token for your account in place. If you had logged out before restarting your NC, you would have been promted to login.
