Currently I am running NCP v1.52.4 with NC 27.0.1, which is the latest version supported by NCP I think.
On Github GitHub - nextcloud/nextcloudpi: 📦 Build code for NextcloudPi: Raspberry Pi, Odroid, Rock64, Docker, curl installer... it seems the latest developments happened 3 months ago.
I just wonder about the upgrade path for NC away from 27.0.1.
Is there any perspective?

I don’t no any details, but:
Shows that the latest commit happened just three days back.
So: Development is currently ongoing!

I was not aware that there is another layer of code behind there. Just saw the main branch and that is a little old.
I am relieved if something is proceeding.
