Nextcloud won’t load on iPhone browsers

  • Nextcloud Server version - 10 also happened on 9
  • Operating system and version - iOS 18.3.1
  • Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Yes / No):
    • No
  • When did this problem seem to first start?
    • Since install, tried it on an install on cloudron and then same problem on a clean server with AIO install.
  • Installation method - AIO
  • Are you using CloudfIare, mod_security, or similar? No

Summary of the issue you are facing:

After login dashboard refreshes 3 times then I get this.

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. Login to Nextcloud
  2. Trying to load dashboard.

Web Browser

Happening on safari, chrome and Firefox. Also happens on a fresh install with just basic apps.

You see the login window, and then it is the dashboard? If yes, then disable the dashboard-app, does it work then?

Does it matter if you are on wifi or cellular network?

Thats the problem thanks, only problem is we use the dashboard for ease of seeing notifications.

Any fixes or ways around this issue?

Normally I’m always using WiFi but happens on mobile data as well.

I have found setting the default app as feeds as a temporary work around.

You have this on the desktop as well? Then the browser console might be interesting to see, what is happening there.

In the log files there is nothing. No fail2ban or something that might interprete some access as an attack and blocks the connection?

No, the issue is limited to Mobile Phone Browsers. I do not have the issue with Windows Desktop or Tablet Browsers.

This tells me that there is an issue in the Dashboard App that causes the page to refresh 2-3 times and then produce a blank page saying “Cannot open this page or there is a problem.” is isolated to mobile phone browsers.

The problem is that I can not see any issues or errors in the log. I have attempted to access the page and then looked immediately at the logs, but nothing shows there is a problem.

Before it (re)loads 3 times, do you actaully SEE the dashboard appearing / flashing before the error occurs?

Yep it does, we found it’s only happening once we go over 14 widgets, we added a 15th widget a few times trying different types of widgets, as long as I keep it 14 or lower then it will not load.
