Nextcloud Talk App Extremly long load time

Nextcloud version (eg, 29.0.5):

29.0.4

Nextcloud Talk version:

19.0.9

Operating system and version (eg, Ubuntu 24.04):

Docker image using Apache (exact OS version unknown)

Apache or nginx version (eg, Apache 2.4.25):

Docker image version unknown

PHP version (eg, 8.3):

Docker image version unknown

My Setup

I’m running nextcloud in a docker container using the latest image (https://hub.docker.com/_/nextcloud/) which I think uses Apache.
I’m also running MariaDB as the database and Redis for caching and file locking also in docker containers. I’m using another container with Nginx proxy manager as a proxy and to handle SSL.

Hardware

I’m running on an N100 mini PC, which is a relativly recent upgrade from the rasberry pi I was running on before.

  • CPU: Intel N100
  • RAM: 16GB

The issue you are facing:

I am experiencing significant delays in the Nextcloud Talk app on my mobile device. It takes several minutes to load the chats I am part of. Once I open a chat, there is another delay of 30 seconds to 1 minute for the messages to appear. If I send a message, it disappears and only shows up after a prolonged period of 30 seconds to several minutes.

Also I don’t get notification from my talk app (and yes I have granted permission and disabled battery optimisations for the app)

In comparison, the web version of Nextcloud Talk is much faster, taking only 10-30 seconds for similar operations.

Steps to replicate it:

  1. Open the Nextcloud Talk app on mobile.
  2. Wait for the chats to load (takes several minutes).
  3. Open any chat and observe the delay in loading messages.
  4. Send a message and note the delay before it appears in the chat.

I can’t access my config right now and don’t have the time to scrub my logs of personal information (like IPs) so let me know what I need to share in terms of logs or config files and I’ll add that info.

I don’t even know where to begin looking for this performance problem I don’t know what could be causing this slowness wheter it’s something about my setup that’s slow (maybe nextcloud itself, maybe the database, maybe something else?) or if the connection has some sort of issues or what and I don’t know where to look to find out what exactly is so slow.
