Getting help

In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.

Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:

(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can. :heart:

The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):
    • 32
  • Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):
    • Ubuntu 24.04
  • Web server and version (e.g, Apache 2.4.25):
    • Apache 2.4.58
  • Reverse proxy and version _(e.g. nginx 1.27.2)
    • replace me
  • PHP version (e.g, 8.3):
    • 8.4
  • Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Yes / No):
    • Yes
  • When did this problem seem to first start?
    • Upon install
  • Installation method (e.g. AlO, NCP, Bare Metal/Archive, etc.)
    • Bare Metal
  • Are you using CloudfIare, mod_security, or similar? (Yes / No)
    • no

Summary of the issue you are facing:

[I followed the server admin documentation to build out my server from the ground up. The application loads the install page without issue, but clicking on the “Install –>” button does nothing. It will switch to “Installing…” briefly and reload the page while leaving the values in place with no errors.

I want to add that I already have a server running that I use daily, but I don’t have many files hosted on it and I’m moving to proxmox and figured I would start from scratch so I can configure the server better. ]

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. Go to weburl/nextcloud

  2. Fill out details

  3. Should replicate

Log entries

Nextcloud

Please provide the log entries from your Nextcloud log that are generated during the time of problem (via the Copy raw option from Administration settings->Logging screen or from your nextcloud.log located in your data directory). Feel free to use a pastebin/gist service if necessary.

I checked my nextcloud.log file and it is 0 bytes in size.

Web Browser

If the problem is related to the Web interface, open your browser inspector Console and Network tabs while refreshing (reloading) and reproducing the problem. Provide any relevant output/errors here that appear.

Content-Security-Policy: The page’s settings blocked an inline script (script-src-elem) from being executed because it violates the following directive: “script-src 'self' 'nonce-bP/FX6dTiqE0MwH+XAhRbZ6kkn9WylMosxH5YaQH344='”. Consider using a hash ('sha256-z7hmWq4xgnzHkRzU5JTu0XEKN3RPoiBg/B/EoavcLDg=') or a nonce.

Web server / Reverse Proxy

The output of your Apache/nginx/system log in /var/log/____:

Checked error log in apache2 and nothing is related

Configuration

Nextcloud

The output of occ config:list system or similar is best, but, if not possible, the contents of your config.php file from /path/to/nextcloud is fine (make sure to remove any identifiable information!):

<?php
$CONFIG = array (
  'instanceid' => 'ocm9ht2ft8uw',
  'trusted_domains' =>
  array (
    0 => 'localhost',
    1 => '192.168.1.xx',
  ),
);
//i added the trusted_domains section as a troubleshooting step.

Apps

The output of occ app:list (if possible).

Tips for increasing the likelihood of a response

  • Use the preformatted text formatting option in the editor for all log entries and configuration output.
  • If screenshots are useful, feel free to include them.
    • If possible, also include key error output in text form so it can be searched for.
  • Try to edit log output only minimally (if at all) so that it can be ran through analyzers / formatters by those trying to help you.

Essentially, I click this button and nothing happens. Says “installing” briefly and then flashes back to Install –>. Can do this over and over again.

That behavior usually happens when PHP can’t write to the Nextcloud directory or the database setup fails silently. Double-check that your web server user (e.g., www-data) owns the Nextcloud directory and has full write permissions. Also make sure PHP 8.4 is fully supported — it’s quite new and may cause issues. If possible, try PHP 8.3 instead. Finally, check your browser console’s “Network” tab for any failed requests when clicking “Install”; it often reveals the real error.

This guide may be helpful. The steps should be same for Ubuntu 24.04

So the problem here is that install run in loop without doing anything ?
This is a wellknown issue on Nextcloud 32, there is a long thread here about it.

Thanks for the replies! @artlog1 I appreciate the referral, I kept thinking there’s no way I am the only one and I felt bad writing this post but I couldn’t find it by using the search terms I was using.

@honduken i was involved in the previous thread that’s why i found it, and you are right you were certainly not the only one. You were right to open that in your wording, this will increase visibility of this issue.
