Nextcloud Files – Logs, Alerts, and Audit Limitations

Hi everyone! How are you doing?

We are a CSP interested in the Nextcloud Files solution, and we’d like to better understand the limitations and possibilities of the logging and auditing tools.

We have a few questions about what can be monitored and captured directly from the admin panel (considering that the end user won’t have access to the server to retrieve these logs):

  • Alerts when users delete content

  • Alerts when users reach their storage quota limit

  • Alerts when users are deleted

  • Organization usage report (storage, Group Folders, connected devices, etc.)

  • Export of file usage reports within Group Folders — including file/folder creation, modification, and deletion

We currently use another solution, Axcient x360 Sync, which provides a built-in log viewer (see attached screenshot). We’d like to understand how close we can get to this kind of visibility and monitoring within Nextcloud.

Could you please help us understand how far we can go with these features in Nextcloud?

Thank you!

A default installation has a Web UI based log reader built-in.

And the audit log can also be configured to also appear there alongside the regular log.

And depending on install method, this may already be done for you (i.e. AIO).

And the integrated activity and notifications can be configured to specific alerting.

There are also numerous other more sophisticated approaches, such as using webhooks, workflows, and Windfill.
