Nextcloud disconnects my USB Flash Drive O.o

Hi there,

i am new to Nextcloud. I switched from using BitTorrentSync two weeks ago or so. It runs on my Raspberry Pi with apache + mysql and the data stored on a USB Flash Drive. BitTorrentSync worked fine for around a year and Nextcloud worked for a week just fine. But now it disconnects my USB Drive everytime it tries to open a file from it. If i try to access it over SSH it gives the error ‘Transport endpoint is not connected’ after nextcloud tried to access a file. If i don’t issue a Nextcloud file access i can access the USB Drive just fine and read/write files. The USB Stick is formatted as exfat. Another strange thing is, Nextcloud seems to not print out a logfile. There is a ‘owncloud.log’ file in the ‘data’ directory, but it ownly contains four old log entries. I didnt’t change the log directory manually.
Can anyone give an advise? Should i post some other logfiles? Or just reinstall it?

Thx for any help

Is your data/ on rhe flashdrive ?
Because when diconnecting this would be an issue for the log file

Or did you mount in debian and access it via “local storage”?

Is the drive still mounted?
What about debian syslog?

Is exFAT the issue? I thought exFAT was not that great in Linux…just a thought.

I made my flash drive an EXT4 volume for my Raspberry Pi. Here’s how I did it, see if you can find a spot where you may have done it differently. My setup has been running stable since the day Nextcloud was released :stuck_out_tongue:

  • As I said, EXT4 volume on the flash drive
  • Made a directory with the path /media/www-data/nextcloud_data
  • Gave www-data user recursive ownership over that directory
  • Mount my flash drive to /media/www-data/nextcloud_data

When I originally set up Nextcloud, I pointed my data directory to that

My only thing is when I reboot I need to manually mount the device to this directory each time for the www-data user

Oh god how stupid. I didn’t realize that the /data directory where the logfiles should be is the data directory where all the files are stored. *facepalm
Okay thats the cause of the “missing” logfile. I tried to open a file with nextcloud just now, but i forgot to copy the content of the nextcloud logfile befor it. Now the USB drive is disconnected and i am not at home over the weekend so i cannot reconnect it. *another facepalm XD
Running mount doesn’t work. I have to pull out the USB drive and put it back in. Maybe i am just to stupid :D.
But here is my syslog with the error message (after nextcloud access) at the end. Maybe it is a problem with exfat introduced with jessie, because i updated to jessie right before i installed nextcloud, but then why did it work for a week?
Thanks for your help Rello and stratacast.
