Nextcloud-desktop: tag 6.2.0 and version 33.0

Hello,

anyone knows about this new tag 6.2.0 that just appears in nextcloud-desktop repo?

I know this is not a release, but this tag seems strange, just after 4.0.6…

And now release v33…

Have I missed some news?

The current version is 4.0 and the next stable seems to be version 33:

It was not released yet, so no news so far about the change.

Thanks @tflidd for the link.

Does this same numbering means “incompatibility” or “out of support” to come if desktop differs from server? For example, does desktop 33 will be incompatible (or not supported) with server 34?

When I first saw the new versioning scheme, and saw that they start with 33 (Why not with 5 or 6??) I knew immediately that it would cause a lot of confusion, especially since at least two versions of Nextcloud are always still actively supported. Currently, versions 32 and 33. As much as I like Nextcloud, naming schemes and versioning aren’t Nextcloud’s strongest suit! *ducksandruns

But, to get back to your actual question: No, they almost certainly won’t be incompatible. That’s never been the case. In fact, you can still use fairly old clients with current Nextcloud versions.

Also, if only the corresponding version were compatible, they would have to maintain two versions and check whether the correct server version is installed before updating the client. Something they almost certainly won’t do.
