Nextcloud Desktop App macOS: Find local devices

Nextcloud version (eg, 29.0.5): 3.14.0
Operating system and version (eg, Ubuntu 24.04): macOS 15.0

The issue you are facing:
macOS asks if Nextcloud is allowed to search for devices on the local network. Since my Nextcloud Server is not on the local network, I say no.
After that the client does not sync anymore. As soon as I allow access, the sync works again

Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Y/N): Y

Steps to replicate it:

  1. Install the software and os combo above
  2. Don’t allow NC to search for devices

Apple manual to that setting.

Update: Strangely I have the same issue for other apps. Not sure if this is the intended behavior of macOS or a bug.

I am using macOS 14.5. I have not found any setting in the settings for “Allow an app to access the local network”. I am wondering whether to upgrade to macOS 15.

Feature was introduced in macOS 15 but you can workaround the issue by allowing Nextcloud. Since you are using 14.5 I suspect another issue for your setup.

Apps “should” automatically trigger the “asking for permission GUI” when they try to access something from the network. So I am not sure if your issue is related.

Can you open https://nc.mochuyu.cn in your browser?
I suspect you have a NAT problem.

My Mac can access and log in normally in the browser, but not in the client。

hmm… than it is probably not a NAT problem.

Maybe we should open a Github issue.

OK, I understand. I’ll look into it myself. Anyway, I appreciate your help!!!
