Getting help

In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.

Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:

(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can.

The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):
    • 34.0.4
  • Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):
    • Ubuntu 24.04.5
  • Web server and version (e.g, Apache 2.4.25):
    • Apache bundled with AIO deployment (unsure)
  • Reverse proxy and version _(e.g. nginx 1.27.2)
    • n/a
  • PHP version (e.g, 8.3):
    • 8.4.25
  • Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Yes / No):
    • Yes
  • When did this problem seem to first start?
    • After a recent reboot of the Ubuntu host
  • Installation method (e.g. AlO, NCP, Bare Metal/Archive, etc.)
    • AIO
  • Are you using CloudfIare, mod_security, or similar? (Yes / No)
    • No

Summary of the issue you are facing:

My host recently rebooted after installing Ubuntu updates. Afterwards, I realized the NFS share from my NAS did not persist through the reboot. I remounted the disk and checked the paths and restarted the docker containers and everything seems to be up and running fine; however, I cannot open any files.

When I run the command
“sudo docker exect -u www-data nextcloud-aio-nextcloud php occ files:scan --all”

It returns the following
“Starting scan for user 1 out of 3 (admin)
Path not found: User folder /mnt/ncdata/admin/files exists in cache but not on disk”
(this repeats for the other 2 users)

I confirmed the mount is up and running using ls and dh. I confirmed the paths do in fact exist (there’s nothing wrong with the NFS share or the files, everything does actually exist). Seems Nextcloud simply can’t “see” them? I searched through and found others with similar problems but they either don’t have a fix or their fix did not work for me.

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. Not sure how to go about replicating this. The error persists through reboots and restarting containers. I can simply run the php occ files:scan --all command to see it again.

Log entries

Please provide the log entries from your Nextcloud log that are generated during the time of problem (via the Copy raw option from Administration settings->Logging screen or from your nextcloud.log located in your data directory). Feel free to use a pastebin/gist service if necessary.

Confirmed on the underlying host or in the nextcloud-aio-nextcloud container?

On the host. Which I assumed also translated to the container. How do I check from within the container?

Ok I think we’re onto something.

At the host level, I mounted my NAS share like /nasIP/share/nextcloud to /mnt/ncdata
And at the host level, that is correct.

But inside the AIO container, that share is mapped as /nasIP/share to /mnt/ncdata

So it can’t find these folders because they’re one more level deep in the mount structure. How do I correct that? How did it get like that in the first place? I guess the latter isn’t too important as long as I can figure out how to fix it.

I’m stuck. In the Ubuntu host, the path is correct and maps to /mnt/ncdata and it shows the proper NFS share on the NAS with all the proper files and sizes.

In the nextcloud-aio-nextcloud container, that /mnt/ncdata path exists but doesn’t go to the same location. It’s significantly smaller, clearly on the local disk, and is missing all the files.

I’ve restarted the host and the containers and the issue persists, so it isn’t a temporary glitch kind of thing. How do I correct the mapping issue inside of the container? If anybody could help me with that I would greatly appreciate it!

Ok, I figured it out. when the map cleared, I incorrectly assumed my local Ubuntu mountpoint was supposed to be /mnt/ncdata

I had to go back and look at the master container before it clicked that the local mountpoint was /mnt/nextcloud, which the nextcloud-aio-nextcloud container maps to /mnt/ncdata inside that container.

Problem solved. /etc/fstab updated so I don’t make that mistake again.

Thanks for following me on this journey. Hope this helps some poor soul in the future that makes the same mistake.
