Can someone please help me understand the NextCloud app?
I’m trying again and again without success.
The fact that it always has to be started from the Finder toolbar - stupid, but never mind.
But if I activate directories on the online side for synchronization, I also want to check those on the local side (similar to Filezilla) - and above all, without having to worry about non-activated directories being deleted (message “unchecked folders will be removed …”).
Now, with a lot of effort, I’ve got the app to synchronize a small subfolder as a test (unfortunately, the sync was on the wrong level; that shouldn’t happen in the future). Now, when I want to continue with another subfolder, Nextcloud keeps telling me that everything is synchronized - which is total nonsense. And when I click the command “open local directory”, I get the online (empty) structure displayed in the Finder, not the actual local one.
Does anyone actually use this crutch? What would be a recommended alternative to synchronize local files with the online ones on a NextCloud?
The local side is the local folder on your computer that you have chosen for the client to synchronise the contents of your Nextcloud with. This should preferably be a new and empty folder, although you can select an existing folder and the client will then ask you what you want to do with the existing files in that folder.
When you uncheck a folder from the list on your screenshot it will be removed from your computer, and if you check it again, it will be downloaded from the server again.
No, what you get is the content of the local folder you have selected for the client to synchronise the content of your server with, and the reason it’s empty is because you probably haven’t uploaded anything to your Nextcloud yet.
And yes, that’s exactly how it’s supposed to work, because it’s supposed to make the data structure of your Nextcloud available on your computer, not the other way around.
Yes I do.
Depends on your exact usecase, but basically, all file synchronisation tools that support WebDAV will work with Nextcloud, even if Nextcloud is not explicitly mentioned.
