Nextcloud-AIO on a RaspberryPi 5 and ‘Context Chat Backend' installation

Support intro

Sorry to hear you’re facing problems. :slightly_frowning_face:

The community help forum (help.nextcloud.com) is for home and non-enterprise users. Support is provided by other community members on a best effort / “as available” basis. All of those responding are volunteering their time to help you.

Getting help

In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.

Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:

(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can.

Summary of the issue you are facing:

Extension of Nextcloud-AIO on a RaspberryPi 5 with ‘Context Chat Backend’
Following the Description in /settings/apps/installed/context_chat_backend

I plan to connect my Nextcloud-AIO on a RaspberryPi 5 to a local AI runnng on a Windows-PC (Ollama/CUDA).
The main feature I wanted to get was the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) for my Nextcloud documents.
Calling the AI prompt from Nextcloud Assistant worked (!) .

AppAPI is running but the installation of the ‘Context Chat Backend’ failed and failed.
( ‘Gesundheitsprüfung’ ) does never come to an end - or if it comes to an end the button (“Herunterladen und Aktivieren”) is active again.
The docker_aio - AIO Docker Socket Proxy is configured.
I tried multiple variants beside the attempts in the GUI.
In AppAPI I also had tried to ‘Add registry override mapping’ . This is set back to Daemon: AIO Docker Socket Proxy (docker_aio)

$ docker ps
CONTAINER ID IMAGE COMMAND CREATED STATUS
f8286b95e7b9 Package context_chat_backend · GitHub “supervisord -c /etc…” 23 hours ago Restarting (255) 27 seconds ago

docker logs write many messages: exec /usr/bin/supervisord: exec format error

Is a scenario with a Nextcloud-AIO and a context_chat_backend and context_chat on the ARM -RaspberryPi and a remote AI provider in the same network a valid attempt?
Or must the backend run on the Windows-PC (x64/ Ollama/CUDA)?
Is a context_chat_backend for ARM available at all?

I also checked GitHub - nextcloud/context_chat_backend but I did not see an answer :-(.

Tips for increasing the likelihood of a response

  • Use the preformatted text formatting option in the editor for all log entries and configuration output.
  • If screenshots are useful, feel free to include them.
    • If possible, also include key error output in text form so it can be searched for.
  • Try to edit log output only minimally (if at all) so that it can be ran through analyzers / formatters by those trying to help you.

Hi, see Feature: also make image available for arm servers · Issue #126 · nextcloud/context_chat_backend · GitHub

Hello Szaimen
Thanks a lot for this hint. Then I was on the wrong track with this concept.
My next attempt will be to assign the context_chat_backend to a docker on the PC where the AI with Ollama is running anyway.
Do you think this can work? Is the distributed installation of Nextcloud AI covered in the documentation at all?

Since I moved my NC from Synology 218+ (x64 but DSM 7.1/ docker too old, elasticsearch not supported ) the PI did a great job, has low power consumption and is fully dedicated to NC.
