Editing an event now in Nexcloud (v31.08) Calendar seem to take the full window view of said agenda.
To me, this is impractical (and to be honest, a bit ugly too).
For example I often need to have the full calendar view (month) while editing an event to adjust the time range of an event.
Is there a way to revert back to the calendar behavior prior to v31.08 with the editing options on the side ?
Edit :I’ve just found out about enabling the “simplified editor”. This is a bit better, but I still wouldn’t mind getting back the calendar/editor side by side
But judging by the enthusiasm for the new view in the related pull request, I doubt they’ll roll it back. Also, maintaining two different views would mean extra work. So I’m not sure how likely they are to implement such a request.
I can see the pros, but for me the cons outweigh this.
First, when creating a new appointment, I do no longer have a view on my current appointments which is often revelant when making appointments.
Second, in full screen view, the “new appointment” view is mostly empty, which is a waste of screen space.
But judging by the enthusiasm for the new view in the related pull request, I doubt they’ll roll it back.
Your encouragement is appreciated.
Note that the quotation was cut/paste from the original message while typing this, something that you can not do anymore from the “new appointment” view.
Yeah, I’m not a fan of it either, exactly for that reason.
On its own, this argument doesn’t really make sense, in my opinion. I’d rather call it “distraction-free”.
Empty screen space is only wasted if it could actually be used for something relevant to the task at hand. So yes, the argument makes sense in the context of your first point (if instead of empty space you could still see the calendar view), but not on its own, simply because there’s empty space.
Yeah, that’s another drawback that comes from not being able to see existing calendar entries anymore. However, you only ever saw the title anyway, which you can still copy before creating the new appointment, or even more easily, by just duplicating an existing event.
Multiple detail views at the same time were never possible before either, so you couldn’t copy detailed information from one event to another without switching back and forth then, either.
Thank you all for your valuable answers. Basically, everything @sciurius said is exactly on point for me too, and that also goes for the waste of space. The full view takes about 1/3 of your screen space and I suppose it is so regardless of your screen resolution : that makes 2/3 of your screen space not only free from distractions at this point, it’s also free from everything else that could have been put there ^^´. On a 32" screen, that’s just awful (and I’m merciful ^^)
Again, thank you both for your answers. I will make do with the current trend.
While I think that is indeed a nextcloud design “mistake”, that’s a “mistake” I can accomodate.
Nextcloud Devs should be - at the very least - allowed to try and do everything they want.
To be fair, it’s 1/3 of your browser window, If your browser window is maximized. The ratio depends on the size of your browser window.
Also, you couldn’t place anything else in the rest of the browser window before either. However, the calendar view was there, of course, and I agree that it was a better use of that space.
