Nexcloud AIO and Nexcloud Office: is the backed Collabora CODE or Online?

Hi everyone,

I see that NextCloud AIO includes NextCloud Office, which is an integration of Collabora. What I am not clear on is whether NexCloud Office uses Collabora Online or CODE? If the latter, can I use the former (ie, is the collabora online server in the AIO or at all necessary). The collabora website still cautions against using the CODE version for production, so I want to be able to use Collabora Online whether as NextCloud Office or as a separate app.

Any help is appreciated.

The Nextcloud Office app is an integration app. It is used to connect to a running Collabora Online instance. You’d use it in either scenario.

CODE itself is merely an edition of Collabora Online. AIO offers an (optional) container that is CODE.

If you want to use the non-CODE edition, there’s nothing stopping you. You generally pay money to do by subscribing to support services which also include supported images with SLAs/etc (either to Collabora Productivity Ltd or to Nextcloud GmbH if using their enterprise offerings).

Thanks for the clarification. So Nextcloud Office will just use either Collabora then it seems. What about the Collabora Online server? Does it have to be installed separately?

There is also the OnlyOffice integration option. Also here, do Nextcloud have a “standalone” app. I have not tested it with “nextcloud office” however the experience of using either still feels fully integrated. The collabora is slightly more seemless.

To get the most powerfull solution but also which requires you to be more hands-on, is an “independant” CODE running in another container entirely. It also seems a slightly better performing solution and slightly more stable. The difference though is minimal unless running this for a many-users instance.
