Hope you’re doing well! I’m new to Nextcloud and the whole NAS/home lab world, and it’s been a great learning experience. I’m running a UGREEN 2800 NAS and using Docker on it for Nextcloud. I’ve hit a few roadblocks and would appreciate your guidance.

First, I’m trying to use the external storage feature to connect to files on the NAS. I get this message: “Either the php-smbclient library (preferred) or the smbclient binary is required for SMB storages. ‘smbclient’ is not installed. Mounting SMB/CIFS isn’t possible.” How should I tackle that?

Second, I want to access Nextcloud externally via Tailscale. I’ve tried guides and videos but still haven’t cracked it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Lastly, I can’t connect remotely via my phone. Entering the home server IP doesn’t work. Any idea what might be causing the block?

Just to tackle something relatively easy first… if you are on the same network (meaning at home), you can’t access the NC server from your phone? Are you trying to use the web interface? Have you tried any of the NC phone apps? Can the phone ping the NC server’s IP?
