Hi there,
im new to nextcloud and not an expert in linux.
but somehow im using Linux Mint on my Laptop here and running a seafile /xmpp server on a raspi3 for family use for the last 10 years.
But now i decided to use nextcloud on a new raspi4 with a bigger Storage. I played around with apps and talk and other stuff last week but now im a bit stuck.
In the end i want to have a cloud with a chat function and also a NAS Storage to put our Data on. Like Photos and Videos etc. We dont want to sync that data with all clients and till now, we just put it on the old server via SSH from our phones, PCs and Laptops.
The Problem now is, that i can access the new server via sftp, but i cant create Folders there or copy files, because i dont have the Permissions.
Is there a built-in NAS function in Nextcloud to just upload files to the server and not syncing with client? (i think that would be the easiest and safest option)
The Basics
Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):
30.0.1.2
Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):
If you want to use Nextcloud, you can use native webdav to access storage directly. If we really want to have a NAS, why not using TrueNAS/OpenMediaVault that are exactly doing that?
Apart from that, you can still use Nextcloud and just hookup a specific folder from your NAS, e.g for stuff you want to share with other outside. And of course if you want the integration chat functionality. Perhaps even put on a separate device for stability/performance
Just for the chat, there is probably also other stuff you could use…
I wanted both. Cloud and nas on the same system. I already had this with Seafile and used ssh and rsync for backup.
The use scenario is to upload family data and pictures and backup them on a system at my parents house, in case our house is burned down or something…
But i think i found a solution. I just created another user called NAS and shared some folders with other users, so i can access from pc via webdav and upload data and pics from smartphones with the normal app and delete them afterwards.
I have an own DNS server on which i set the domain name to point to the local ip address, so it’s not going over Internet if you upload things at home.
And for my parents house i will setup a raspi with a cmdline app and it automatically syncs with the NAS user.
For the chat the talk app works good. But it’s not working on my cars radio phone.
