I’m trying to install the latest version of Nextcloud but I’ve only gotten as far as the MySQL/MariaDB setup… hopefully someone’ll be able to help.

  • Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):
    • Latest
  • Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):
    • Debian 13, LXDE Desktop
  • Web server and version (e.g, Apache 2.4.25):
    • Latest
  • PHP version (e.g, 8.3):
    • 8.1
  • Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Yes / No):
    • Yes
  • When did this problem seem to first start?
    • Install

I’m installing MySQL/MariaDB and I can’t get any further, specifically the mysql_secure_installation bit. I’m following, as much as possible, the same install process used for a Raspberry Pi 5 where it worked, son

Steps to replicate:

I install MariaDB:

  • apt install mariadb-server
  • mysql_secure_installation

And on that last I simply get…

command not found

I’ve checked and Maria DB is running (see below).

I’m looking for solutions (not very helpful so far) but any idea?

Nextcloud hasn’t been installed at this point so I’d appreciate some advice.

Thanks

James

mysql_secure_installation is the old name, try: mariadb-secure-installation.
