My wishlist for a greater nextcloud experience

Hello,

I have tried to use nextcloud as my only cloud provider for office, calendar, contacts and file storage, but have recently switched back to Google Docs. The main reasons were problems getting the Nextcloud office working with the provider I have (never got it working), unreliable sync of local files and folders on linux, and lack of a native contact and calender sync on mobile devices.

The Nextcloud office might be working now, I haven’t tested it since I switched to Google again, but the main reason was that the CODE-package was not compatible with never versions of Nextcloud.

The Desktop Client I have a really hard time liking. Everytime I need to sync a larger amout of files from my computer I end up spending too much time debugging sync issues. I dont trust it completely as it is now. I also miss a better overview and control over the transfer queue. I would like to be able to see and filter all pending transfers, their status, and have easy access to solve common sync issues directly from the client app. I hope that Nextcloud put more effort in improving the UI and reliablility of the client.

When it comes to the mobile client, what I really miss is a native solution for calendar and contacts sync. The current solution, having to install and configure a separate app, that also costs money, is a huge blocker in my opinion. I would love to see a simple solution similar to the one for the Outlook where you only have to turn on or off a switch.

I am using two nextcloud providers for my own needs and I have also been evaluating implementing Nextcloud in the company I work for, but feel that it is not ready for business use yet based on my personal experience with Nextcloud.

The problem is that companies like Microsoft, Apple and Google are exploiting their monopoly position. Many of your problems are less due to Nextcloud than to the fact that Nextcloud is a third-party software. Also, many users only know the advantages of the proprietary solutions used previously and do not appreciate the new approaches of free software, for example. With regard to problems with providers, it might make sense to try out other Nextcloud providers. For Nextcloud Office, you could perhaps try Wolkesicher Cloud Demo as a test. You can also try Nextcloud Office there. Does it work better there? I think the accesses are reset every hour or so.

I think with Android you can use apps without extra costs. But of course the Google cloud calendar is better integrated on a Google smartphone than the Nextcloud calendar. Anyone who has a problem with this will probably have to hand themselves over 100% to Google. It may be similar with Apple.
