My Nextcloud doesn't use aio-imaginary anymore, and I don't know why

Getting help

In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.

Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:

(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can.

The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):
    • 30.0.4
  • Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):
    • OpenSUSE Tumbleweed
  • Web server and version (e.g, Apache 2.4.25):
    • nginx 1.27.3-1.1
  • Reverse proxy and version _(e.g. nginx 1.27.2)
    • none
  • PHP version (e.g, 8.3):
    • 8.3.14-2.1
  • Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Yes / No):
    • Yes
  • When did this problem seem to first start?
    • 8 November 2024
  • Installation method (e.g. AlO, NCP, Bare Metal/Archive, etc.)
    • Nextcloud: bare metal
    • Imaginary: Docker/aio-imaginary
  • Are you using CloudfIare, mod_security, or similar? (Yes / No)
    • No

Summary of the issue you are facing:

Imaginary container is running & healthy, but the last thumbnail was apparently generated over a month ago. I haven’t done any configuration changes (well I have, before noticing the issue, but I have rolled back everything), and Nextcloud logs don’t show an issue. I have updated the aio-imaginary image at some point, this might or might have not been the time when the issue started.

Imaginary container log just says Imaginary has started.

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. Add Imaginary settings to config.php
  2. docker pull nextcloud/aio-imaginary:latest
  3. docker run -d --name nc_imaginary --restart always nextcloud/aio-imaginary:latest
  4. Open any folder containing not yet thumbnailed images

Log entries

Nextcloud

Please provide the log entries from your Nextcloud log that are generated during the time of problem (via the Copy raw option from Administration settings->Logging screen or from your nextcloud.log located in your data directory). Feel free to use a pastebin/gist service if necessary.

Password: n3xtcloud

Please note that most of the errors are due to me installing a CODE server (which I eventually removed again, but this all was after Imaginary stopped working I’m pretty sure) and trying to troubleshoot the issue at hand.

Configuration

The output of occ config:list system or similar is best, but, if not possible, the contents of your config.php file from /path/to/nextcloud is fine (make sure to remove any identifiable information!):

Thank you for any help!!

Hi, you could try this parameter: Configuration Parameters — Nextcloud latest Administration Manual latest documentation

Thanks a ton for the suggestion, but unfortunately it doesn’t help :frowning:

So just to confim, I do not have to put 'OC\Preview\JPEG' etc. into the enabledPreviewProviders array when 'OC\Preview\Imaginary' is in there, correct? Because when I put it there, it works. But it keeps working even if I remove the Imaginary entry, so it’s just the built-in slow thumbnail generator at work, correct? And with a working Imaginary entry it should still generate previews even if the array is completely empty otherwise?

Man, I’m at a loss. I’ve already ordered a new NUC out of frustration.

EDIT: Ruled out the firewall as well, but shouldn’t there be an entry for port 9000 when running ss -ltnp? Because there isn’t.

Hell, I just managed to resolve the issue. The problem was that the standard docker run -d nextcloud/aio-imaginary:latest doesn’t make port 9000 available. You have to run it as docker run -d -p 9000:9000 nextcloud/aio-imaginary:latest .

I’ll see if I can get this into the documentation.

And thanks @szaimen again, you put me on the right track.
