Summary of the issue you are facing:

Hello,
I was very late updating my Nextcloud server and upgraded to version 31 last night.
Everything went well except that from version 25 or 26 onwards, the style was completely broken.
I asked Claude, who advised me to empty the contents of the css and js folders in ‘appdata_ocXXX’.
Since I did that, the front end displays the following error message:
"Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator if this error reappears multiple times, please include the technical details below in your report.
More details can be found in the server log."
The css and js files do not seem to be generating.
Can you help me?

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. Go on FTP, [..]/data/appdata_ocXXX/css and delete all files, and the go on ftp [..]/data/appdata_ocXXX/js and delete all files

  2. ON front end, actualise page

  3. Error message

Tips for increasing the likelihood of a response

  • Use the preformatted text formatting option in the editor for all log entries and configuration output.
  • If screenshots are useful, feel free to include them.
    • If possible, also include key error output in text form so it can be searched for.
  • Try to edit log output only minimally (if at all) so that it can be ran through analyzers / formatters by those trying to help you.

Hello,

I retrieve the content of the js and css folders cache from another instance.
I think my issue came from the impossibility to write the cache :

First warning on security check on admin page :
“Unable to read and write a value from the local cache.”

Do you know where I can authorised cache to be write on my OVH server ?
