We (Sam Ditmeijer and I) are very happy (and proud!) to share that our new MetaVox app is now available in the Nextcloud App Store. We originally developed it for the University of Amsterdam, but it’s freely available for everyone to use.
MetaVox is a customizable metadata app that allows you to define your own metadata fields for team folders and files in Nextcloud.
This is the first version (and our first app), but we think it already adds value for use cases such as archiving, business processes (e.g. approvals), and retention.
We’d love to hear your feedback, ideas, and experiences.
Hi Rick,
Thank you for your response. I’d like to clarify a few points regarding the issues we’re experiencing:
Metadata Not Copying:
A screenshot would indeed show that metadata doesn’t transfer when moving files within the same folder but it will just show empty columns.
This suggests there might be an issue with the backend event hook installation or a similar component that handles file operations.
Text Column Lock Issue:
We’re also experiencing an issue where text columns become locked and uneditable.
This isn’t something that would be easily captured in a screenshot, but it’s a significant usability problem.
Theme Compatibility:
There’s a third issue with the foreground text color when using the black theme (which is Nextcloud’s default).
The text is barely visible, indicating missing logic for font color adaptation to dark themes.
Reproducibility:
To confirm these aren’t isolated issues, my colleague installed Nextcloud and MetaVox completely independently and is experiencing the exact same problems.
I have everything running on my Nextcloud development instance and would be happy to demonstrate these issues live.
Please feel free to contact me at sj@migratedms.com, and I’ll provide full support in troubleshooting and resolving these matters.
Despite these issues, I want to emphasize that you’ve done a fantastic job addressing what was the most obvious showstopper for migrating from SharePoint to Nextcloud.
MetaVox fills a critical gap, and with these fixes, it will be an invaluable tool for the community.
