I’ve been trying out the routing function in maps, and have a couple of questions.
Without any set-up of routing providers, I get a route description, and a line plotted on the map, but there’s the message that routing is currently disabled. When I add an API key for graphhopper, I also get a (better) route, but it’s not shown on the map. Am I missing something here?
Also, how do you use this feature in real life? With the app in a browser on the phone, or do you copy&paste the individual steps and print them out? I would love to replace Google Maps with it, but am not sure how to approach this.
For Android / iOS you can better use Organic Maps, OsmAnd or Magic Earth. Normally you create a GPX track e.g. with BRouter Web and then use the GPX file in the apps. In OsmAnd and Magic Earth you can also use it to navigate the GPX track. On Organic Maps you can only display the track for orientation. Or you use commercial products like Komoot or Outdooractive.
Nextcloud can do a lot. But it is unsuitable for some things. Microsoft 365 is not designed for navigation. Although you can of course display maps in PowerPoint.
It’d be really useful (and finally replace google maps) if you could “Send route to your phone” easily. I tried exporting a track and using it in OSMand, and the result was catastrophically awful. It didn’t line up with the OSMand map exactly, and caused it to constantly deviate from the route.
I don’t use it via Nextcloud. If you only have one destination, you have only to transfer to target position it to the navigation app. However, if you want to follow the exact route/track as shown in Nextcloud or BRouter Web, for example, you have to copy a GPX file or import it into a navigation app such as Organic Maps, OsmAnd or Magic Earth. You can try sharing the GPX file via Nextcloud, then download it to your smartphone and open it directly in the navigation app.
