Mail-like experience while texting other NC users?

Hi potential new NC user here.
I would like to know whether it’s currently possible to have a mail-like window layout for writing longer formatted text, which isn’t possible with a chat app ?
I’m not talking mail per se (no smtp), but just exchanges between NC users or federated NC instances.
Basiclly I’d like E2EE messaging with standard mail layout. It would actually replace classic SMTP mail between NC users.
Is this possible with the currrent NC release, plugin or third party app ?

You could use e2ee for mail:

Regarding chat, there are different chat options in Nextcloud:

However, normally a chat you want to have short messages. I mean, you could write something in a mail editor, take a snapshot and send that snapshot. If you want to have everything like in an e-mail, why don’t you want to use e-mail? E2EE?

Hi i know about Mailvelope or similar solutions, but it’s still an extra step most people aren’t willing to implement.
The ability to natively write longer E2EE messages in NC in a mail-like page setup would actually lessen the reliance on legacy email between NC users to do just that.
Sound like a logical step to me for an AIO solution as is NC.

Nextcloud Talk does support Markdown. However, it unfortunately does not provide a full-featured editor with a formatting toolbar. This means users need to know Markdown syntax in order to create formatted text in Talk.

For users who are less familiar with Markdown, a possible workaround would be to compose more complex messages in the Nextcloud Text app first and then copy and paste them into Talk.

Hi that’s exactly the problem IMO. For the standard end user, typing markdown syntax is a bit like asking them to type in Morse code so to speak.
How far a stretch would it be really for NC devs to provide a mail-like layout with formatting toolbar ?
It could be integrated as an option in an existing app like Talk, or (maybe better) a new app that kinda sits between chat and the (genuine) mail app.
It would fill a void IMO for many end users that would allow to combine the familiarity of any mail app and proper E2EE without any further ado.

I don’t know. But I found two open GitHub issues related to this topic where people are discussing ideas about what such an interface could look like. Maybe you can upvote them so the developers know there is interest in this feature. You can also share your ideas in a comment.
