Hi, I am installing the new macos virtual files client, and even looking at the manual (a bit too simple), I can’t find all the entries and how they work, in the finder there are several entries.
The “Do Not Sync” or Sync” item what action do they perform?
If you have specific points about the documentation, on GitHub · Where software is built you can ask for clarifications. For developers, it is sometimes difficult to image the problems first-time users might have.
The virtual files are supposed to handle the download and sync process automatically in the background. Not all the files are downloaded in order to save save space on your drive. Files are downloaded when you want to open them, and they are synced back to the server once you modified them. After that, files that are used often have a copy on your local drive (and what is kept and what is freed runs a bit in the background).
You can now modify this behavior, e.g. you can make a folder always locally available (e.g. work remotely without internet connection), or you have finished a project but the folder keeps up space on your drive, you have the option to free local space.
In the interface (not exactly sure for macOS, if it is identical):
The cloud symbol means, that the file is only available remotely and if used, it will be quickly downloaded. The two blue arrows mean, that is a file that has been changed and is about being synced to the server, and the green check means that is a file available offline (either asked manually for it, or it was used recently).
Thanks for the reply, yes on MacOs there is a slight difference than on Windows, also as far as the manual is concerned it is not very specific about the new features for the MacOs virtual files client.
However by doing some testing I also discovered the functionality of the two “Sync” items.
