MacOS Desktop app failing to update

I’m running Desktop client version 33.0.0 on MacOS 26.3.1. My update channel is set to stable.

When the client tries to update it downloads the update file (33.0.1, 383.0MB) but as soon as it reaches 100% it then pops up an error dialogue:

Update error!
An error occurred while launching the installer.  Please try again later.

I don’t see any indication that Nextcloud is writing anything related to the update to a log file. There is ~/Library/Application Support/Nextcloud/Nextcloud_sync.log, but that has no update information in it. I don’t see anything related to Nextcloud in ~/Library/Logs/, and just to be sure I checked using lsof during the download, and see no open log file.

I’ve got a report from a couple my users of the same issue on MacOS. So far nothing from Windows or Linux users.

What should we be looking at to fix this?
