Latest version or release plan

I’m a bit confused by the release version numbering of Nextcloud desktop client. On Fedora 43 only recently a package for version 4.0.7. The AppImage is at v33.0.8 but if I navigate to Download and install Nextcloud and click to donwload the Linux version I get an AppImage version 33.0.2. On Maintenance and Release Schedule · nextcloud/server Wiki · GitHub version 4.0 is not mentioned at all.

Is there documentation on this? What does the Nextcloud team recomend to use as reliable or as cutting edge version?

Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can.

Maintenance and Release Schedule · nextcloud/server Wiki · GitHub is about the server release , not the desktop client.

Latest release of the desktop client is v33.0.2

For details see:

Thanks! I was looking at the wrong place then. Would make sense to include on the customer face website also (?)

Btw now that I know where to look (which I might forget in the future, sorry about that) is there some sort of (future) release plan also?

I just downloaded from Index of /desktop/releases/Linux the version 33.0.2 AppImage. When starting it says:

Am I doing something wrong here?

Where did you find this 33.0.8 AppImage?

Fedora does not provide an AppImage. They provide a Flatpak, which, the last time I checked, was still on 3.17, just like the RPM package they provide. There is also the Flatpak from Flathub, which is on 33.0.2.

Okay, so they are on 4.0.7 now. Distributions other than rolling-release distros like Arch Linux often lag behind in software package versions. Thre are distros that don’t update to new upstream versions at all within a release cycle, as is the case with Debian or Ubuntu, where this is an intentional feature and usually only security fixes are backported.

Fedora is a bit of a mixed case. It also has a six-month release cycle, but some packages are updated in a more rolling manner. However, that does not necessarily mean you always get the latest version of those packages.

Distributions also sometimes patch packages themselves, and in general they decide for themselves which software versions to ship and when.

Because that page refers to the server releases, not the desktop client.

You’re on the “daily” channel. Try to switch back to “stable”, and it should only bother you again when the next stable version is out.

Thanks @bb77 . That’ll do the trick for me.
