Keep Syncing with client version 2.6.5 with server version 31

Hi,

I just updated my server to version 31.

One of my users is still running client version 2.6.5, since it’s the only one still working on his system (mac os 10.11). He cannot update to a later mac version. (It just doesn’t work, already tried multiple things)

Is there a way he can still sync his files?

Thanks

PS: also the webapp doesn’t work at all in any of the browser versions that still support his mac os version, but that’s not that important. Syncing is tho.

Maybe open an issue here: GitHub · Where software is built ~~

But to be honest, I wouldn’t get my hopes up too high, because I think it’s only a matter of time before Nextcloud stops offering version 2.6.5, and then also no longer supports it. Maybe this time has even come now with Nextclod 31.

I’d say version 2.6.5 is probably only still offered for download because some paying customers are still running OS X or macOS 10.X.X. Remember when Apple used to call it Mac OS X, then just OS X, and then macOS? Feels like a lifetime ago…

Anyway, the point is that all releases for which you would still need 2.6.5 have been EOL for a long time, i.e. they no longer receive security updates, and therefore should not be used anymore!.

Here is a list of macOS versions that are still supported by Apple: Apple macOS | endoflife.date

No, please do not open an issue.

NC31 requires at least client in version 2.7.0

I edited my post.

From what I can see from the changelog and the commit that increased the minimum required version, the minimum version was just updated because it’s older than 5 years and not for any technical reasons. So I assume just changing the config should make it work again, (at least for a while until there is an actual technical reason to not support it anymore)

see here: [RFC] consider pinning the `minimum.supported.desktop.version` at every release · Issue #49519 · nextcloud/server · GitHub and here: chore(config): set min supported desktop to `2.7.0` by skjnldsv · Pull Request #49527 · nextcloud/server · GitHub

Hello,

thank you for bringing this up. this showed an issue with the version that is linked on our homepage - 2.6, which is completely outdated.

The latest legacy release was 3.13.4
We are in the process to correct the download link in the homepage.

Thanks again

Does “legacy” here still mean OS X or macOS 10.x.x? I mean none of the X or 10 releases are supported anymore by Apple. So in my humble opinion no one should use them aynmore. But maybe that’s just me.

So just throw away a perfectly working system because you can’t update it anymore?

Linux actually runs quite well on most x86 Macs, on many older models supposedly even better than MacOS

And yes, I am aware that not everyone can or wants to use Linux, but using the Internet in 2025 with an operating system that has not been updated in more than 4 years is simply reckless, and you will not be able to convince me otherwise.

But each to their own, I guess.

Apparently this requires OS X 10.13. Doesn’t seem to work on 10.11

Then they should change the description on the website

On the plus side, opening this thread has at least led you to what can be done, and apparently that has to be done anyway, no matter what version is offered for download on nextcloud.com

Or maybe this will help you a bit further, not really sure: Index of /desktop/releases/Mac/Installer
