The issue you are facing:
Can I use NextCloud Talk for personal use or is it only for enterprise?
But when I start a call in Talk I get a message “Talk-installation incomplete” telling me I need to install the NextCloud Talk High-performance backend. But that seems to to be limited to enterprise solutions.
But I do not use the self-hosted version of NextCloud. Instead on a managed “Storage-share” (cloud solution) from Hetzner. I am not a very technical person and hence not familiar with running Docker scripts etc.
Can I trust that the HPB environment is propoerly configured by Hetzner so that I can simple use Talk without any technical problems?
Just to clarify a few things: Nextcloud is a highly modular piece of software. Many features are implemented as apps, plugins, or additional backend services. This means that, depending on the configuration, it can be anything from a simple file-sharing platform, which is essentially the core functionality if you don’t install any apps or plugins, to a full-fledged groupware, collaboration, and communication platform. And even that isn’t the limit, as further apps and integrations make it highly extensible.
However, this also means that hosted Nextcloud offerings can differ significantly from one provider to another. So, if you subscribe to a Hetzner Storage Share, you’re not technically purchasing “Nextcloud” itself. You’re purchasing a Hetzner Storage Share, along with the particular Nextcloud features that Hetzner has chosen to provide.
Do they even offer that? As far as I know, they don’t.
What I believe you can do, however, is set up the Talk HPB on a separate server, for example on a VPS from Hetzner, and then connect your Hetzner Storage Share instance to it. I can’t provide any details about the Storage Share–specific side of the setup, though, since I don’t use Hetzner Storage Share myself.
