Telegram-like In-App Media Player for Talk (Android & iOS)

Hello everyone,
I have submitted two feature requests on GitHub to massively improve the integrated media player inside the Talk apps for both Android and iOS. Currently, standard audio files (.mp3, .wav) are displayed as clunky file attachments in the chat stream.

The goal is a compact chat bubble player, background playback, and automatic queuing for consecutive audio files – just like Telegram does it. The Android dev team labeled the ticket as an “enhancement”! To ensure feature parity, I have also opened a ticket for iOS.

I really hope we can get enough thumbs-up on GitHub so the developers see that there is a genuine demand for a more modern, streamlined audio experience in Talk.

I mean, improvements are always good.

But posting vibe-written ads here just to farm likes for a GitHub issue and then celebrating the fact that it got an “enhancement” tag, which basically just describes what it is. But yeah, I get it; the tag means that it was recognised by the developers. Well done, I guess. :wink:

Fair point, @bb77! You’re totally right that the “enhancement” tag is just a standard classification and doesn’t mean it’s being coded tomorrow. I might have gotten a bit too excited there.

My main goal was simply to move the discussion away from the initial “out of scope” impression and focus on a general UI/UX improvement for shared audio files. Since the developers on both platforms are now looking at it for architectural discussion, I just wanted to see if other users feel the same way about the current audio attachments.

Thanks for the reality check, and I completely agree that any small improvement to the chat flow is a win!:wink::melting_face:
