In Nextcloud 31 there should be Nextcloud Teams - but where?

I have no support/technical question and have seen the support category. (Be aware that direct support questions will be deleted.)

Which general topic do you have

One of the new features of Nextcloud 31/Hub 10 are the Nextcloud teams.

I updated our instance, but cannot find the Teams anywhere.

I searched the documentation (Administration, User), but nothing about the new teams.

All I can find is about the Microsoft Teams integration, but that is not, what I am looking for.

Where can I create teams, assign persons to teams, assign a folder to a team etc.?

It’s the new name for the old circles app, and it says it should be installed and enabled by default:

So check your Disabled Apps, if you can find and enable it.

I think it is a little bit more complex.

With Nextcloud 31 there is Team folders the new name of Group Folders. Link

I found the app and it is active:

The wiki, which is linked under the Details tab is quite empty:

Where should I see a navigation entry, tab or anything related to the Teams app in the web UI?

In the admin settings there is no Teams:

Isn’t “Teams” still part of the contacts app like it was for circles?

You are right. I installed the Contacts app and there are the teams.

Thank you!

The question remains, how can I assign a folder to a team?

You create a team, and then it should be possible to share a folder with this team:

You are right, I can share with the team, as I could share it with the group.

I understood the announcement that I can make the team owner of a folder.

Did I get it wrong?

Just to chime in on another problem here… you filed this one under “General” and checked that you don’t have a support request.

But what do I see? Of course this is an support-request.

So tell me… what do we need to do to make YOU posting stuff in the correct category… ? @ThomasBahn

moved to “support”

You must differ between a.) share a normal folder with e.g. a team and b.) creating a team folder (earlier group folders) for a team.

This is a.) sharing a normal folder with e.g. a team.

This is b.) Team folders earlier Group folders.

For b.) you can install the app “Team folders” (earlier Group folders). Then you can create in Administration / Team folders (https://cloud.server.tld/settings/admin/groupfolders) a Team folder (earlier Group folders) and allow a user, group or a team to manage the Team folder.

Thank you for moving the question(s) to support.

I’m in the IT business for about 30 years and I would assess it differently, but lacking a formal definition: Your forum, your rules.

It was announced in a way, I expected it to be a core function of the product, not an extension (through apps). But fair enough, there is the Team folders app and it was this, what I was looking for.

Thank you!

Sorry, but obviously I can mark only one answer as solution.

The advantage of Nextcloud is the possibility to do without certain functions. Apps can be partially deactivated. Other apps do not need to be installed at all.

The Teams app ( formerly known as Circles) for managing teams can be deactivated. It cannot be uninstalled.

The Teams folders ( formerly known as Group folders) app does not need to be installed.

This is particularly useful for single-user systems where individuals want to manage their data without teams.
