Ideas to improve calendar app design

Hello all,

I have a little experience in web development, and none in open source contributing, but I would like to participate.

I noticed a few ways in which the Calendar app could be improved. For example, the full today date is not necessarily displayed depending on the month/week/day view. It seems easy to add it on top of the left column.

This looks like a good way to start to my mind, but I’m not sure how to do. Should I open an issue on github? discuss these ideas on a forum first? get approval from someone about them?
