I want my little cloud icons again!

I have to be honest, after Google’s joke of eliminating unlimited space as a Google Drive user I was not very happy to forcefully switch to using Nextcloud basically due to the lack of an official function of Virtual file robust like the competitor… I followed the instructions and activated the function through the configuration file accepting the danger that something would go wrong in brackets as the disclaimer had clearly told me).

I used this function for a long time until one fine day making yet another update on my iMac Sonoma, in my positions, the Nextcloud icon appeared that took me inside a volume where all the files no longer had the famous .nextvloud extension so hated, but finally little clouds icons next to it that told me if the file was usable locally or was on the cloud. FINALLY! I exclaimed…

Unfortunately the joy ended early, because after about a month of use I found myself with the old folder with all the files marked with the Nextcloud extension still on my disk and thinking of cleaning I removed everything and reinstalled only the new version with the virtual files function.

Unfortunately the surprise was really great when I saw that in the installation the option for virtual file management no longer appeared, but everything was back as it was several months ago and I found myself having to modify the .cfg file once again which as a result, brought me exactly back to the initial (obnoxious) situation … can someone help me?

errr. sad story.
but even sadder is that you forgot to mention any relevant detail of anything.

so please… give us more information about server, environment, versions etc

I’m using Nextcloud through a local provider (Aruba), and the client version I’m using is the latest one: 3.14.2. But there are some updates… during my attempts to uninstall and reinstall, “magically,” while clicking around the folders on my Mac, all the folders with the cloud icons suddenly appeared. Now I have a Nextcloud folder among my favorites with all the files marked with the .nextcloud extension, and another one inside locations with the little clouds… Last time, after reading around, I found I could delete the first one, but considering my last disastrous experience, this time I’m just going to hold on to the 53 gigs of abandoned files in the folder marked without using them, praying that the “Google Drive” style folder continues to work well as it has so far. :four_leaf_clover:
