Htaccess password / HTTP basic auth

Please delete everything above when creating your topic and provide the following:

Nextcloud version (eg, 12.0.2): 12.0.5
Operating system and version (eg, Ubuntu 17.04): Debian Stretch
Apache or nginx version (eg, Apache 2.4.25): 2.4.25
PHP version (eg, 7.1): ??

The issue you are facing:

All,

is it possible, to make the nextcloud mobile app use basic http authentication?

The advantage would be, that non logged in users don’t get in touch with PHP.

I’ve found a post in which someone is using this [1].

On the other hand, there’s a discussion saying it wasn’t possible? [2]

Furthermore, is it possible to make Apache query the owncloud passwords? Maybe with a common backend? LDAP?

A basic http authentication and the Nextcloud authentication, I don’t know if this can be easily done and if all the apps manage to handle this. I could imagine that this can get complicated and if you have problems, it’s hard to tell if this is due to your special setup or a real bug and it is hard to get help.

If you want an additional layer to protect your setup, I’d use Nextcloud behind a VPN. Both services are independent, so you can easily separate issues, once you are connected, you can normally use all apps. LDAP shouldn’t be a problem.
