Getting help

In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.

Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:

(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

[Steps to replicate added]

Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can. :heart:

The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):
    • Nextcloud Hub 25 Autumn (32.0.3)
  • Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):
    • TrueNAS 25.10.1
  • Web server and version (e.g, Apache 2.4.25):
    • nginx/1.28.0
  • Reverse proxy and version _(e.g. nginx 1.27.2)
    • caddy v2.10.2
  • PHP version (e.g, 8.3):
    • PHP 8.4.16
  • Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Yes / No):
    • No
  • When did this problem seem to first start?
    • Nextcloud 29 ? I am not very sure
  • Installation method (e.g. AlO, NCP, Bare Metal/Archive, etc.)
    • docker with image linuxserver/nextcloud:latest
  • Are you using CloudfIare, mod_security, or similar? (Yes / No)
    • No

Summary of the issue you are facing:

I would like to rename a particular person on Memories app but it failed with a message Failed to rename Tom _ to Tom..

I guess there is a person with the same name but no photo belongs to him. How can I get rid of the person?

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. On a freshly installed instance with Recognise installed, upload a couple photos with people in it.
  2. Run occ recognize:classify
  3. Rename a recognized person to “Bob”
  4. Run occ recognize:reset-faces
  5. Run occ recognize:classify again.
  6. Rename a recognized person to “Bob” again.

Tips for increasing the likelihood of a response

  • Use the preformatted text formatting option in the editor for all log entries and configuration output.
  • If screenshots are useful, feel free to include them.
    • If possible, also include key error output in text form so it can be searched for.
  • Try to edit log output only minimally (if at all) so that it can be ran through analyzers / formatters by those trying to help you.

Hi @janusng,

Unfortunately, I can’t contribute anything meaningful to your actual question, but I can to this one:

If you want to use imaginary, you need to add 'OC\\Preview\\Imaginary' as a preview provider to the corresponding array, 'OC\\Preview\\Image' is not a valid preview provider. Like this (example):

  'enabledPreviewProviders' =>
   array (
    0 => 'OC\\Preview\\HEIC',
    1 => 'OC\\Preview\\Imaginary',
    2 => 'OC\\Preview\\Krita',
    3 => 'OC\\Preview\\MarkDown',
    4 => 'OC\\Preview\\Movie',
    5 => 'OC\\Preview\\OpenDocument',
    6 => 'OC\\Preview\\TIFF',
    7 => 'OC\\Preview\\TXT',
  ),
  'preview_imaginary_url' => 'http://imaginary:9000',

h.t.h.

ernolf

@ernolf I encountered a bug in Imaginary and I disabled it. And I have forgotten it. Thanks for reminding me. :blush:

That’s interesting! What bug? Did you open a thread about it?

Yes. I reported the issue here.

I have reset the whole things and added Steps to replicate in the opening post.

I am running into this error message now too. I am on AIO. I think the sequence of events was this:

  1. select name eg “Tobias Eigen” to see photos identified with that person
  2. select “merge with different person” from menu
  3. choose an unnamed person to merge with
  4. agree when prompted to “Merge Tobias Eigen with unnamed person?”
  5. on resulting page, select “rename person”
  6. choose the name selected in (1)
  7. see “Failed to rename nnnn to Tobias Eigen” error message

I am able to replicate this quite easily on my site.

I agree that the desired behavior would be that “Tobias Eigen” were removed when their photos are merged into another person. Given this is not happening currently, is there a way to clean this up?

Edit: oh, I just added some more folders to memories and now see “Tobias Eigen” has popped up again. So it appears the name exists for a reason and should not be removed. I am not sure what the mechanics are here, especially once many more people are using the same nextcloud instance to identify faces of the same people! :face_with_spiral_eyes:
