Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can

Nextcloud version (eg, 12.0.2): master and stable18 branch from git
Operating system and version (eg, Ubuntu 17.04): nextcloud-docker-dev on top of ubuntu 18.04
Apache or nginx version (eg, Apache 2.4.25): Apache/2.4.38 (Debian)
PHP version (eg, 7.1): PHP/7.2.28

The issue you are facing:
There’s no workspace UI
No link to create notes etc. for the current directory and also no link to turn on / off the workspace view//.

Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? No. Tried twice - with current master and stable18

Steps to replicate it:

  1. Follow instructions here: https://github.com/juliushaertl/nextcloud-docker-dev
  2. login to nextcloud.local
  3. try to add notes to the workspace

The output of your Nextcloud log in Admin > Logging: is empty.

The output of your Apache/nginx/system log in /var/log/____:

You are looking for the text app.

If i go to apps-> Büro & Text -> “Text” it says:

Diese App kann nicht installiert werden, weil die folgenden Abhängigkeiten nicht erfüllt sind:
Server version 17 or lower is required.

https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/text says the same.

I can install it by first activating the non tested app and then clicking on “download and install”.

Now i can create text documents via the :heavy_plus_sign: button in the files. But I cannot alter the dir summary. Even if i create a Readme.md by hand it does not help.

Another thing i noticed is that when editing the .md files they will not have a menu entry for todo lists. So maybe i am using an outdated version of the Text app?

Clone the repository from GitHub?

Yes… cloning the text repo into the apps folder and setting the nextcloud-docker-dev up from scratch (docker-compose down -v ; docker-compose up proxy nextcloud) did it.
