How to downgrade desktop client back to 3.17.3

I ran my usual desktop updates and just got the new v4 desktop client. Like others (I think? maybe different setups), I’m unable to open the desktop app (settings does open) and I don’t see the green checkmark.

I’m currently using builds from the nextcloud-devs ppa, and I do note their warning:

NOTE for Jammy and Noble users: as of the end of 2024, the client requires Qt 6.7.0 and some of the KDE Framework 6 libraries. Jammy contains Qt 6.2.4, Noble has Qt 6.4.2 and neither has any KF6 libraries. Therefore the client must be patched to be able to compile for these distributions and the required KF6 libraries must be backported (they are in this repository). This may result in not everything working properly on these distributions. If you experience any problems, you may contact the maintainer, but he may not be able to fix it due to the size of the effort required.

based on that… maybe I need to switch to some other version? appimage/snap/compile myself? I do enjoy the nautilus / Files integration right now though.

For the time being I’d just like to downgrade to 3.17.3 because that was working fine an hour ago, but I can’t find those packages. I tried apt policy nextcloud-desktop and apt-cache showpkg nextcloud-desktop but I’m only seeing 4.0.0 and 3.11.0. Anyone know where to find the 3.17.3 build and how to safely/correctly downgrade & pin/hold?

aha, found the binaries here: Index of /nextcloud-devs/client/ubuntu/pool/main/n/nextcloud-desktop

I just had to download the right .deb files, then I ran dpkg -i *deb locally and it downgraded the packages. Then I pinned them like so:

sudo apt-mark hold \
  nextcloud-desktop \
  nextcloud-desktop-common \
  nextcloud-desktop-l10n \
  nautilus-nextcloud \
  libnextcloudsync0

The downgraded nextcloud app and nautilus integration work as expected.

You marked this as solved. but with regard to your original intention it is not solved.

beside the NC Client 4.0.0 the newest client in your link is 3.16.6. But you also wrote

To use 3.17.3 again have a look at Release 3.17.3 and also nextcloud-releases / desktop

It worked for me exactly as described, but…

Weird! They were there yesterday. The binaries are still sitting in my ~/Downloads folder:

Hi, I found this page with the .deb files for the 3.17.3 and noble version

It seems that someone removed it.

It worked for me but downgrading this way is quite punk :].
