I’m looking for a simple way of recovering the contacts from a NextCloud installation that crashed (crash not related to Nextcloud). Is this information stored as a flat file, that can be recovered? I searched around and couldn’t find anything.

The contacts data is in the database. It can just be read there as its not encrypted. Thats why nearly all people I consult with have gone for a real groupware installation rather then using contacts and/or calendar. Its a data protection issue for quite some of them.

Its a real shame the contacts and calendar data is not encrypted as I am testing it and it works very well.
That said I cannot let customer data and personal data be left exposed, so will have to try other options too.
Pity it can’t be added to cryptomator.
