Hi all,

I have workflow/concept related questions I face in two private projects. One is creating and managing a family photo library, the other one is using collectives for the parent-teacher-org of my son’s former high school.

In both situations the apps in question refuse to create their file store in a group folder (or team folder?) - it all starts with seemingly multiple different plugins shown in both a Hetzner managed Nextcloud service as well as my self hosted one. They are both version 31, btw.

So is this the official app?

I hope so. OK, I tried pointing the new Memories app as well as the builtin Photos at a group folder for the picture library - didn’t work up to a point of crashing the app. Only manual removal of the configuration via occ brought it back.

Of course in the case of our family pictures it is acceptable I create the folder in my account and share it with the rest of the folks.

But to my organisation - this is much more like a company environment, even when not for profit. I need to be able to set up e.g. a collective in a space where it is not tied to my personal account. Because I will be leaving the board of directors come next March.

People coming and going is at the core of every organisation and tying organisation wide resources to personal accounts is a really bad idea.

So what is the state of support for group folders and why do they (at least for me) not work with these two apps? Am I doing anything wrong?

Thanks and kind regards,
Patrick

Dear @pmhausen. In Collectives, it’s not supported to use a groupfolder as storage. It’s not needed though as collectives don’t belong to a user anyway. Creating a collective will create a corresponding team in the background. The markdown files reside in a hidden folder on the filesystem and will get mounted into the home directory of users who are member of the team. This works pretty much the same way as groupfolders work, just with a team instead of a group.

Good to know - thank you.

So I will open a new thread for my photo management because apart from the folder ownership question I really do not understand the workflow :slightly_smiling_face:

But collectives are solved for me - time to start getting some work done. Trying to switch from a Confluence based workflow to Nextcloud.
