Getting help
In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.
Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:
- Official documentation (searchable and regularly updated)
- How to topics and FAQs
- Forum search
(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

Summary of the issue you are facing:
We’re using Nextcloud 32.0.1 with Group Folders 20.1.3 and want the following setup:
A parent folder /ProjectA visible as read-only to all team members.
Subfolders /ProjectA/Module1, /ProjectA/Module2, etc., with full access for the respective module team.
Issue:
Members of a module team cannot write in their subfolder if the parent folder is read-only.
If we give full access to the parent folder, the subfolder works, but then the parent is no longer read-only for everyone.
Question: Is there a way in Nextcloud 32.0.1 + Group Folders 20.1.3 to have a read-only parent folder and subfolders with full write access for specific groups, or is this a limitation of ACLs
