Smmary of the issue you are facing:

On the windows desktop, I moved on error a folder to another folder, and after a few seconds I moved it back to its original position and the client deleted it.

On the recyble bin of the web console there isn’t the deleted folder so I cannot restore it.

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. on window client, move a folder to another folder in same directory

  2. after a few seconds (3-5 in my case) move it back its position

  3. the folder gets deleted by the client

  4. in web interface, recycle bin, there is no trace of the deleted folder but a deleted folder named as the main folder from which we did the move (e.g. moving \a\b to \a\c\b then back to \a\b, i see in recycle bin a folder delete of \a)

  5. tried restore of that delete but get file error

Tips for increasing the likelihood of a response

  • Use the preformatted text formatting option in the editor for all log entries and configuration output.
  • If screenshots are useful, feel free to include them.
    • If possible, also include key error output in text form so it can be searched for.
  • Try to edit log output only minimally (if at all) so that it can be ran through analyzers / formatters by those trying to help you.

I have regular backups and recovered the files by them, but reported here in case it is something that may happen to other people.

The simplest solution would be to restore the folder from the backup of either the Windows system or the Nextcloud server.

As your example clearly shows, mirroring files and directories is not a backup and does not protect against data loss.

The problem is not the lost files, but them missing in the “deleted files” section of the web interface, where the deleted files are supposed to end up after their deletion.
