Files randomly stuck untill paused/resume

The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):
    • 30.0.4
  • Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):
    • TrueNAS
  • Are you using CloudfIare, mod_security, or similar? (Yes / No)
    • Tailscale

Summary of the issue you are facing:

Hello,

I’ve set up Nextcloud on TrueNAS and connected it via Tailscale (my connection is direct, not using a relay). I’ve checked locally and with Cloudflare as well, and this error doesn’t occur (though with Cloudflare, I did experience upload limit issues). So, it seems like it’s related to Tailscale. I will post this on the Tailscale forum as well.

Everything works fine except for one annoying issue. When I’m syncing with the Windows client, every few dozen files, a random file gets stuck. I can identify the stuck files because these temp files don’t change.

It’s never more than 3 files simultaneously. When all three are stuck, the entire download stops indefinitely. What’s interesting is that pausing and resuming fixes the issue.

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. Connect via tailscale.
  2. Use the client to sync a folder with a lot of files. I have a folder with a few GB of files, each ranging from 50-150 MB. Sometimes the sync will get halfway through or even complete most of it, but other times the first file is blocked after several dozen files.

I don’t see anything suspicious in the server logs. Have you also looked at the client logs?
