Files Access with Windows Explorer, WebDav or Alternative

Hello,
we would like to use Nextcloud as a file server / SharePoint-OneDrive.

We still have a few questions about handling the files:
The field service employee will probably work a lot via the browser
With there notebook, tablet and cell phone

The office employee will probably mainly use the Windows File Explorer for the files access.
I’m still not entirely happy with the Nextcloud client here.
Because of the synchronization / download of the files.
Is it possible to switch this off completely?
I also don’t know if WebDAV is the solution.
In addition, many people work via a Remote Desktop Server, so the NC client is definitely not the right solution here.

What could be the solution?

Thanks, regards
Arthur

Nowadays you have the virtual file sync active. If you open the main window, you can click on the three dots of the sync point, and then turn this feature on or off (if it is off, it just syncs all the files). Not sure which behaviour you prefer, and what exactly is not working.

Yes you can work with webdav directly, e.g. clients like WinSCP can connect to it. Having a virtual drive or something is more complicated, in theory it is possible natively in Windows, but it was always a bit tricky and Microsoft stops supporting this feature. There are other drives, but mostly paid (NetDrive, MountainDuck, …).

Microsoft probably prefers to sell its proprietary Microsoft 365 cloud and has no interest in alternatives. With Linux Desktops, you can use davfs2 very nicely. Accessing Nextcloud files using WebDAV

Yes horrible, how they try to force you into that. I didn’t use Win11 yet, but with all these forced features and registration, I’ll perhaps convert from dual-boot to Linux only.

If I turn off the Synchronisation, then I have no access to all Nextcloud Files.
The it is like a logout.
With Windows Standard-Feature a WebDAV access is no Problem.
I can map it as network drive.
I think it is maybe not so stable like SMB/CIFS.
