File path/name limit on Mac OS and Linux

I realize there is a 260 character limit on file path/names imposed by the Windows API, but can anybody confirm that the desktop client app is also imposing this limit on Mac OS and Linux devices?

I’ve tried about every web search possible with various keywords, but all I come up with are reports from people asking if the Nextcloud client can get around that limitation on Windows.

My company has a few clients on Nextcloud servers and one is a law firm that likes to make file and folder names a mile long. I remember when I migrated them from an old Mac OS Server setup to Nextcloud, there were quite a few cases where files wouldn’t sync because of the file name being too long or had bum characters in it, I don’t know which one. But I do know that some of them had painfully long names.
